This study was part of the WHO:Euro Multicentre Study of Suicidal Behaviour. 150 patients were interviewed following an episode of deliberate self-harm and followed up one year later. The study aimed to identify problems and psychiatric disorders associated with DSH, genetic vulnerability for DSH, risk factors for repetition of DSH, and to provide information on treatment needs, compliance and outcome. Dr. Julia Sinclair conducted a 6-7 year follow-up study of these patients to assess outcome, including healthcare utilisation and costs.
