Keith Hawton, Jacqui Smith (Minister of State for Health) and Simon Armson (Chief Executive, Samaritans) at the launch of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for England on 16th September 2002 at the 9th European Symposium on Suicide and Suicidal Behaviour.
The Strategy aims to support the Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation target of reducing the death rate from suicide by at least 20% by 2010. It seeks to be comprehensive, evidence-based, specific and subject to evaluation, and will be delivered as one of the core programmes of the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE).
