CEQUEL: trial of treatment for bipolar depression

Trial treatments

CEQUEL is a large-scale randomised controlled trial comparing the quetiapine and lamotrigine combination treatment with quetiapine plus placebo.

The trial will also investigate the effect of adding folate to current treatment for bipolar depression.

Measures of effectiveness

The trial will compare the treatment in terms of short-term relief from depression and longer term freedom from both depressive and manic symptoms.

The trial will also assess:

  • the safety and tolerability of the treatments
  • quality of life
  • deliberate self-harm
More details of the trial can be found on the CEQUEL website.
